Utility Operator/Network Tech
Job Description:
As an Electrical Distribution System Operator, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the electrical distribution system.
You will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and optimizing the performance of our distribution and substation equipment.
Your duties will include providing clearance to field personnel, monitoring system loads, controlling SCADA devices, and coordinating the restoration of electric service during outages.
Additionally, you will prioritize the needs of high-priority customers, including those on Medical Alert/Life Support systems.
This position requires a fixed rotating shift.
Core
Responsibilities:
Plan, monitor, and maintain a safe operating environment for the electrical distribution system.
Evaluate and control the status of all distribution and substation equipment.
Provide clearance to field personnel following established Lock Out/Tag Out procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
Monitor distribution system loads and recommend load transfers between circuits and substations to avoid overloads and phase unbalance.
Remote control and update SCADA devices, respond to alarms generated by SCADA, and coordinate with field personnel for issue resolution.
Direct and coordinate efficient restoration of customers' electric service during outages using manual or computerized systems.
Prioritize restoration efforts for customers on Medical Alert/Life Support systems and high-priority customers.
Perform all other projects and duties as assigned.
Education/Experience/
Qualifications:
Associates Degree in engineering/electrical technology, mathematics, or related technical discipline and no experience; or High School diploma/GED and 2 years of technical knowledge and proficiencies in the power industry, including electrical substations, line maintenance, and/or generation.
Must successfully complete the COBRA exam.
